Another area that can be improved on is residue. In a Horizontal Ribbon Mixer, there is often residue left behind that needs to be evacuated prior to starting another batch, typically up to 10% regardless of who's ribbon mixer it is. With the advancements of Vertical Ribbon Mixers, this now is reduced to only trace amounts, if any, depending on product.
Where the diversity happens is the minimum size of the batch. In a Horizontal Ribbon Mixer to get an effective mix you need a minimum of 50% capacity. In a Vertical Ribbon Mixer this drops to 10%. The broadens the diversity and allows various production batch sizes to be run.
